2001 Trek 4900 Mountain Bike – Used
I was able to pick up a really nice used 2001 model year Trek 4900 mountain bike for a decent price from eBay recently.
The Trek 2001 4900 was well regarded. It was rated 4.3 out of 5 on the MTBR site.
The used Trek 4900 came pretty much stock except for the saddle and the tires. I have since upgraded the stock Shimano Acera crankset to a Shimano Deore HollowTech crankset, and changed the cage pedals to platforms. There was all that I needed to do the mountain bike to make it good as new.
Here is a partial list of the components on the used Trek 4900.
Shift Levers – Shimano Alivio RapidFire Plus
Brakeset – Promax Aluminum linear-pull brakes, aluminum linear-pull levers
Fork – Rock Shox Judy TT, 3.15″ travel
Front Derailleur – Shimano Acera
Rear Derailleur – Shimano Deore in silver
Crankset – Shimano Acera
Go to BikePedia for a list of the components that was on the 2001 Trek 4900.
There were three versions of the 2001 Trek 4900. This one is the non-disc version. There was also the Disc version with disc brakes instead of V brakes, and a women specific version. It came in black, red or silver.
The frame size of my Trek 4900 is 13” and fits my older son, now, and should fit my younger son next year.
